In-Home Parkinson’s Support for Individuals and Families Across the South Shore and MetroWest

Parkinson’s affects everyone differently, and care and support should too. North River Home Care offers Parkinson’s services and support to help you or your loved one remain independent, engaged, and at home as long as possible.

As a local, family-owned and operated home care agency we bring a personal commitment to every family we serve. We’re not a franchise or a faceless corporation. We’re your neighbors, and we care deeply about the communities we call home.

We understand that the right caregiver makes all the difference. That’s why we take the time to match each client with someone who fits not just their care needs, but their personality and lifestyle.

“As my husband’s Parkinson’s progressed, I didn’t know how we were going to manage at home. North River Home Care stepped in and changed everything. He adores his caregivers. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I can breathe again.”

— Carol M., Hingham, MA Client Wife and primary caregiver

Our Parkinson’s Home Care Services

Personal Care & Daily Living: Our approach always puts safety first, while still prioritizing independence. We step in when help is needed and step back when it isn’t. Our experienced caregivers and adaptive techniques and tools make daily life safer and more comfortable.

Safety & Fall Prevention: We help make home a safer place, from assisting with mobility and transfers to offering recommendations and modifications that support greater independence.

Transportation & Getting Out: Our caregivers can provide safe, reliable transportation to appointments, therapy sessions, errands, and social outings. Staying connected to life outside the home is just as important as the care that happens inside it.

Medication Management: Timing is everything with Parkinson’s. Our caregivers provide reliable medication reminders to help manage “on/off” cycles and keep symptoms as steady as possible throughout the day.

Nutrition & Meal Support: Our caregivers can prepare nutritious, easy-to-eat meals tailored to you or your loved one’s needs, with attention to hydration and swallowing challenges that can accompany Parkinson’s.

Movement & Physical Activity: Staying active matters. We can encourage and assist with gentle exercise, including walking, stretching, and balance work, to help maintain strength, improve stability, and support independence at home.

Companionship & Emotional Wellbeing: Beyond physical care, our caregivers offer genuine connection through conversation, hobbies, and engagement that support mental health and combat the isolation Parkinson’s can bring.

Respite for Family Caregivers: Caring for a loved one is meaningful work, and it’s also exhausting. We offer scheduled and flexible respite care so family caregivers can rest, recharge, and be at their best.

Supporting Independence for People Living with Parkison’s

One of the most important things we can do for someone living with Parkinson’s is help them hold onto what they can do. Independence looks different for everyone, and it can change over time. Our caregivers are trained to recognize that balance and to support it thoughtfully, encouraging self-sufficiency at the moments it’s possible and offering a steady, caring hand in the moments it’s not.

Whether it’s encouraging your loved one to button their shirt, walk to the mailbox, or simply choose what they’d like for lunch, we believe small moments of independence add up to a meaningful quality of life.

How to Know if it’s Time for Extra Support

My 94 year old mother returned to her apartment in September 2024 after a fall and time in the hospital and in rehabilitation.    North River Home Care was recommended to us by a person we trusted.  Our experience with North River was excellent from start to finish.  Management was highly responsive, from our first call, and constantly monitored my mother's care.  The aides who were with my mother were all caring, and did a terrific job helping my mother maintain her dignity while assisting with necessary details of life.  My mother responded to this support and gradually grew stronger.  With time we were able to slowly reduce aides services from 24 hours daily to the point that no further assistance was required.  Over a month has passed since then and my mother continues to do very well.  This recovery was in great part the fruit of the caring help and gentle assistance North River provided to her, bringing her back to pretty much as she was and once again walking long distances (no not running but she never did).  .  We are all extremely happy with the support she received from North River for which we remain most grateful.

After our father had experienced multiple hospital stays, we wanted to avoid another rehab facility. We decided to move him back into his assisted living community with a 24hr caregiver. Jen Davis was compassionate and easy to work with. The caregivers were all wonderful, especially Cheryl and Dourina. We used NRHC for 3 weeks and highly recommend this team to other families looking for 24hr care.

North River’s caregivers provided comfort to my father and my family when we really needed it. They emphasized with us and gave us our privacy when we needed it. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs help caring for an elderly patient.

The North River Team was excellent while dealing with my parents care. Our Care Advisor Mia met with us and went over all they can do and gave me frequent updates. The home aids were wonderful in dealing with my mother who can be difficult and helped my Dad run errands as well as with hygiene and self-care. When the time comes for more help with my parents home care we will definitely be contacting North River Home Care.

Hiring North River Home Care came at a difficult time. My wife was dying and came home in hospice care. Having good and reliable Home Care assistance was essential to providing round the clock attendance at my wife's bedside. Julia Hawkins was North River's Client Service Manager. She was attentive and helpful describing how Home Care would work when we met in our living room. She was easy to reach by phone subsequently. My wife's home stay lasted two days. The North River Home Care team was here when my wife arrived from the hospital and there were three sequential aides with my wife at all times. My wife died the next day while Luisa, North River's Home Care aide, was caring for her. After the hospice nurse left Luisa provided the care my wife needed allowing my sons, her sister, and me time to sit and grieve together. Luisa was extraordinary. She was there but sensitive to our time and place at my wife's bedside. Luisa's experience and knowledge about care and dying were invaluable. After my wife had died and we had said our good byes Luisa prepared her for the undertakers and allowed us time to be with her for the last time. While our time with North River Home Care was very short, the care and service were necessary, important, and very helpful. I would recommend anyone looking for this kind of support to reach out to North River Home Care.
