If you are a veteran or surviving spouse of a veteran who served during a declared period of war, you may be eligible for veteran’s financial assistance that may pay all or some of your home care costs.
The Veteran’s Financial Assistance Program is a pension benefit funded by the VA that provides financial assistance to Veterans and their surviving spouses who are in need of home care services or assisted living care. The benefit is referred to as the Veterans Administration Aid and Attendance Pension Benefit.
Eligibility is determined based on service during a declared war period, income limitations, liquid asset limits and a physician’s confirmation that assistance and care are medically needed due to a non service-connected medical condition.
The declared periods of war:
WWI – April 6,1917 through November 11, 1918
WWII – December 7, 1941 through December 31,1946
Korea – June 27, 1950 through January 31, 1955
Vietnam – August 5, 1964 through May 7, 1975
Gulf War – August 2, 1990 through the Present Date

Application for Benefits
Prior to completing the correct application forms for the benefits, you must research the process in depth. We urge you to visit:
These websites are helpful in directing you throughout the process. We strongly urge you to contact your town’s veterans agent, the state veterans office, and the VA. Also, please be advised that dealing with the VA can be an excruciatingly slow process. It’s a good idea to keep notes and a detailed list of people you speak with (also noting the times and dates), and when using the postal service get a return reciept to verify the VA got your correspondence.
Lastly, we at North River Home Care have many veterans in our own families, and we sincerely thank all our veterans for their sacrifices.
