Home care in Natick, Massachusetts

Home care in Natick for the parent who always took care of you

When Mom or Dad needs more help at home, the worry lands on you. Since 2007, North River Home Care has helped Natick families keep their parents safe, comfortable, and at home.

Maybe you have started to notice a few things

Families rarely call us after one big moment. It is usually a slow build of small worries like these.

  • Meals are being skipped, or old food is sitting in the fridge.
  • Mail, bills, or medications are piling up.
  • There was a fall, or a near fall, that nobody mentioned.
  • The same questions come up again and again.
  • Your parent seems lonelier than they used to be.
  • You are driving over every day, and you are running on empty.

None of this means your parent has to leave the home they love. It often means it is time for some help.

You can be their son or daughter again, not only their caregiver.

Caring for a parent while working and raising a family wears anyone down. A caregiver who comes a few hours a week, or stays around the clock, gives you room to breathe and gives your parent steady, kind support.

If you just need a break, our respite care covers you for a weekend, a trip, or a few hours each week.

Very disappointing experience! Especially for a family dealing with dementia! I recently hired this home care company to care for my father, who has vascular dementia. I was contacted by the company because the caregivers were uncomfortable with language my father used while in her care. I was also told that he touched one of the caregivers on the shoulder. ***Let me be very clear: I understand that caregivers deserve to feel safe and comfortable. However, if a company is providing care to someone with DEMENTIA I expect their caregivers to have a basic understanding of how dementia affects the brain and behavior. My father has vascular dementia. He has lost much of the filter and impulse control that he had before his illness. Inappropriate language, impulsive behavior, changes in social boundaries, and can be symptoms of dementia. These behaviors are not necessarily intentional, disrespectful, or something the person can simply "choose" to stop. What concerns me most is that instead of demonstrating an understanding of dementia related behavior and knowing how to appropriately redirect or manage it, the situation was presented to me as though my father was simply behaving inappropriately. That is extremely concerning to me for a home care company! Extremely. If you are caring for someone with dementia, you need caregivers who understand the disease, not caregivers who are going to take dementia related behaviors personally. Families put an enormous amount of trust in home care companies. We are trusting them with our parents when we cannot be there. **Dementia specific training should not be optional**!!! I am sharing this because other families deserve to know what questions to ask before trusting a company with a loved one who has dementia. Ask about their dementia training, how they handle inappropriate language and behaviors, and whether their caregivers actually understand the neurological changes that come with the disease. ****Based on my experience, I do not feel this company was adequately prepared to care for my father, and I would not recommend them to any family looking for knowledgeable dementia care. Please due your due diligence! Stay away from this company.

North River has been so responsive with my parents' care, fine tuning services as needed, and being flexible with changing needs. All of the aides have been kind and caring, especially Kelsey, who has built a strong rapport with my dad -- so grateful to be able to rely on her!

The team at North River Home Care was so integral to my aunt's care. They cared for her as if she was family and made sure she had what she needed to live as independently as possible. I highly recommend them!

Jen Davis was great to work with scheduling caregivers for our mom. She was responsive to any feedback and requests in a timely manner. This is the difference between North River and other support services. They listen and respond quickly and do their best to find good caregivers that are a good fit with those being cared for. Kathy and Tracey were kind, attentive and hard working!

North River helped immensely in taking care of my mother (as I had an immediate need) until I could get her moved into Memory Care. Their employees were kind and compassionate and their services gave me peace of mind. I highly recommend their services.

My wife and I started with North River Home Care back in 2017, and our caregiver Kathy quickly became part of the family. When my wife moved to Memory Care, I kept home care services as much for companionship as help with daily tasks. I've been a client ever since. Visits from Kathy and our Care Advisor, Jen Davis, are something I genuinely look forward to. They are all wonderfully in tune with my needs, and with others here at Linden Ponds too. That personal touch makes all the difference. When Kathy recently went on medical leave, North River stepped right up with an excellent replacement with no drop in quality whatsoever. It's clear they set a very high bar when it comes to hiring. Their caregivers are skilled, well-trained, and you can tell they actually enjoy what they do. North River Home Care is, without question, top notch.

My 94 year old mother returned to her apartment in September 2024 after a fall and time in the hospital and in rehabilitation.    North River Home Care was recommended to us by a person we trusted.  Our experience with North River was excellent from start to finish.  Management was highly responsive, from our first call, and constantly monitored my mother's care.  The aides who were with my mother were all caring, and did a terrific job helping my mother maintain her dignity while assisting with necessary details of life.  My mother responded to this support and gradually grew stronger.  With time we were able to slowly reduce aides services from 24 hours daily to the point that no further assistance was required.  Over a month has passed since then and my mother continues to do very well.  This recovery was in great part the fruit of the caring help and gentle assistance North River provided to her, bringing her back to pretty much as she was and once again walking long distances (no not running but she never did).  .  We are all extremely happy with the support she received from North River for which we remain most grateful.

After our father had experienced multiple hospital stays, we wanted to avoid another rehab facility. We decided to move him back into his assisted living community with a 24hr caregiver. Jen Davis was compassionate and easy to work with. The caregivers were all wonderful, especially Cheryl and Dourina. We used NRHC for 3 weeks and highly recommend this team to other families looking for 24hr care.
Working with Jen Davis at North River has been an amazing experience. They were very helpful and made sure to meet my mom‘s needs and to accommodate her schedule. She really enjoyed her caregiver. Thank you!

North River’s caregivers provided comfort to my father and my family when we really needed it. They emphasized with us and gave us our privacy when we needed it. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs help caring for an elderly patient.

The North River Team was excellent while dealing with my parents care. Our Care Advisor Mia met with us and went over all they can do and gave me frequent updates. The home aids were wonderful in dealing with my mother who can be difficult and helped my Dad run errands as well as with hygiene and self-care. When the time comes for more help with my parents home care we will definitely be contacting North River Home Care.

Hiring North River Home Care came at a difficult time. My wife was dying and came home in hospice care. Having good and reliable Home Care assistance was essential to providing round the clock attendance at my wife's bedside. Julia Hawkins was North River's Client Service Manager. She was attentive and helpful describing how Home Care would work when we met in our living room. She was easy to reach by phone subsequently. My wife's home stay lasted two days. The North River Home Care team was here when my wife arrived from the hospital and there were three sequential aides with my wife at all times. My wife died the next day while Luisa, North River's Home Care aide, was caring for her. After the hospice nurse left Luisa provided the care my wife needed allowing my sons, her sister, and me time to sit and grieve together. Luisa was extraordinary. She was there but sensitive to our time and place at my wife's bedside. Luisa's experience and knowledge about care and dying were invaluable. After my wife had died and we had said our good byes Luisa prepared her for the undertakers and allowed us time to be with her for the last time. While our time with North River Home Care was very short, the care and service were necessary, important, and very helpful. I would recommend anyone looking for this kind of support to reach out to North River Home Care.

From our family to yours

We started North River Home Care because we were family caregivers ourselves. We know the late-night worry, the guilt of not being there enough, and how hard it is to ask for help.

Nearly two decades later, we are still family-owned and still local. When you call, you talk to people who understand, not a national call center.

Questions families ask us

My parent says they do not need help. What do we do?

This is very common. Many families start small, with a few hours of companionship or help with errands. It often feels less like "care" and more like a friendly visitor. We are happy to talk through how to bring it up.

Do you serve all of Natick?

Yes, including Natick Center, South Natick, West Natick, Walnut Hill, and Wethersfield. Our MetroWest office is a few miles east on Route 9 in Wellesley.

How much care can we start with?

Care can be a few hours a week or around the clock. The free in-home consultation helps us recommend a schedule that fits your parent and your budget.

Can VA benefits help pay for care?

We are a VA approved vendor. If your parent is a veteran or the spouse of a veteran, we will walk you through how VA benefits for care at home work.

You do not have to figure this out alone

Talk to a real person today. The consultation is free, and there is no pressure.
